As Managing Partner of our Digital Economy Fund, Jim leads ITIC’s investments in the digital realm, from AI and IoT to crypto.
An engineer by training, Jim has held senior leadership positions with several startups and companies including Symbol Technologies and Telxon Corporation (both acquired by Motorola), Silicon Graphics, and Ellie Mae. He also co-founded and served as CTO of IC Media, an innovator of CMOS image sensors that was acquired by MagnaChip (Korea).
What’s the greatest value you bring to startups?
Before becoming a VC, I was a startup founder myself, and also had leadership positions in quite a few successful startups. These experiences give me a unique angle when I’m helping startups with the many issues they face, from the technical and operational to the financial. Because I’ve been exactly where they are.
To you, what’s the most important trait of a good VC?
It goes beyond money, that’s for sure. It’s about bringing actual experiences from the battlefield, and bringing connections that serve the teams.
